文章中常會看到 in addition 和 in addition to 這兩個詞，但意思卻是相當不同，你知道它們分別是什麼意思嗎？又該如何正確使用呢？一起來看看吧！
1. in addition (adv.) 而且；此外
in addition 是副詞，中文的意思為「而且；此外」，通常會放置於句首，可以用來修飾整個句子，如下例：
ex.) I finished my homework. In addition, I did some household chores.
(我做完了作業。此外，我還做了一些家事。)
有些字也可用來表示「此外」，像是 additionally, besides, moreover 等，這些字也是用來修飾整個句子的喔！用上面的例子來改寫：
ex.) I finished my homework. Additionally/Besides/Moreover, I did some household chores.
(我做完了作業。此外，我還做了一些家事。)
2. in addition to 除了...之外
in addition to 的中文意思為「除了...之外」，要注意此處的 to 是作為介係詞，因此後面要加上名詞或動名詞。
用法：in addition to N/V-ing
ex.) In addition to finishing my homework, I did some household chores.
(除了完成我的功課外，我還做了一些家事。)
ex.) In addition to English, she is also learning Japanese.
(除了英文之外，她也在學習日文。)
有些字也可用來表示「除了...之外」，像是 apart from，後面同樣要接上名詞或動名詞，用上面的例句來做改寫：
ex.) Apart from finishing my homework, I did some household chores.
(除了完成我的功課外，我還做了一些家事。)
ex.) Apart from English, she is also learning Japanese.
(除了英文之外，她也在學習日文。)

in addition to以介词to结尾，作用相当于介词，表达的是“除···之外”的意思，这条短语后面需要接宾语
in addition以名词结尾，作用相当于副词，表达的是“另外”的意思，这条短语通常放在从句句首，后面接句子

加註:
My manager wants to sell apples. In addition to THIS, he would like to sell oranges. *在此例句中的 THIS 是指 apples. THIS 就是那個名詞.
換言之，

基本觀念: 介係詞+名詞= 表達時間與空間概念的形容詞(Adj.)或副詞(Adv.)
因此，in addition為「片語副詞」，通常放句首，修飾承接「訊息補充」的句子。
Ex: Smoking is hazardous for health. In addition, it also poses threat to the environment. 抽菸危害健康。另外，抽菸也對環境造成威脅。
例句的in addition也可替換成besides, furthermore, moreover, additionally等「副詞」
相較之下，in addition to以「介係詞」to結尾，後面須再加上名詞或動名詞才能成為「語意完整」、「文法正確」的「副詞」。
例如上面例句可改寫為「除了危害健康，抽菸也對環境造成威脅。」
英文譯為: In addition to being hazardous for health, smoking also poses threat to the environment.
注意!!!「危害健康」需寫成動名詞"being hazardous for health"
