平日我們使用 whether 時，基於不同的情況，可分為數個使用方法。無論是whether, whether or及whether or not，只要看懂這篇便輕鬆了。

Whether 用法一：

『Whether or』

可直接提供2個選項

難度：★★☆☆☆

用法文法重點：

– 使用時，必須加上『or 』來連接兩個選項

– Whether 只可以在句子中間使用

Whether or正確例子：

My mother is thinking to buy whether red or green dress.

我的母親正在思索買紅色的還是綠色的裙子。

I am not sure whether going Hong Kong or Japan next week.

我不敢肯定我會去香港還是日本。

Whether 用法二：

『Whether or not』

可提供是、否的決擇情況

難度：★★☆☆☆

用法文法重點：

– 使用時，必須加上『or not』，『or not』可以放在句子最後或是whether後面

– Whether 在這個用法只能放在句子的中間。

正確例子：

I am not sure whether I will go to the party or not.

我不敢肯定我會否前往派對。

Tom is deciding whether go camping or not.

湯姆正在決定會否前往露營。

（轉述句 reported speech）

文法重點：

– 只可在轉述是、否問題時使用

– 使用時，句子可加上『or not』（不加也可以）

『是、否』問題是甚麼？
『是、否』問題: 指只容許你回答是或否，對或錯的問題。句子的開頭可以是:
Be: is/am/are, was/were Do/does/did Have/has/had

Whether or not 正確例子：

Whether 可以在轉述句中這樣用，假設是Tom向你問問題：

1. 原句 – Tom：Are you hungry?
轉述句 – Tom asked me whether I was hungry.
湯姆問我是否肚子餓了。
2. 原句 – Tom：Do you know Miss Chan?
轉述句 – Tom asked me whether I knew Miss Chan.
湯姆問我是否懂得陳老師嗎。
3. 原句 – Tom：Have you eaten lunch?
轉述句 – Tom asked me whether I had eaten lunch.
湯姆問我是否吃過了午餐。
