I am looking for such a student.
1. You are not good at conversation.
2. You want to pronounce beautifully like a native speaker.
I spend 20 percent of the time for teaching. 80 percent of the time I allow my students to practice their language
skills. Why? Because when students spend more time for practice, their language skills are more
likely to improve. Spending time with practice language improving students' memory, Grammar, and Vocabulary.
Teaching English to me is all about share. I share my story and study tips to tell students that it is never too late to make English fluent. My short-term teaching purpose is to guide students to improve their English skills with effective tips and tools. Furthermore, I focus on increasing learners’ interests and fulfillment through my teaching to motivate them to study proactively. I am fulfilled when I see students’ progress and more than happy to see them become confident when they overcome their fear in English. And that is my long-term purpose for teaching English.
Teaching Approach
In order to help students learn English clearly and more effectively, I use different teaching approaches on different occasions and topics. I employ the Communicative Approach and Comprehension Approach in my teaching.
Teaching Techniques
Generally, I spend less than 1/3 time to teach students concepts. I dived the class into 3 parts: warm-up, main course, and reinforcement. I prefer students to practice right after learning a new concept. It helps both students and me to evaluate how much students comprehend about the new concept. I always share my learning journey and some mistakes I made a lot to lower students’ affective filter and use positive words to encourage them. From my teaching experience, as long as adult students reduce their fear, they can learn faster and become a happy learner.
I like to inspire students rather than teach them. Many Taiwanese students lack critical thinking ability. Consequently, they become passive learners. I encourage students to think about their purpose of learning English to motivate them to study proactively. I usually share a story or funny experience related to the topic we’re going to talk to trigger students’ interests. I also invite students to share their opinions and ideas about the topic before we start it. I design lots of speaking practices in the class and give students opportunities to give presentations in front of the class. Although many students are nervous in the beginning, they improve a lot and present very well gradually. Through speaking and writing tasks, I can evaluate my students if they fully understand the concepts, grammar, and pronunciation.
