Sorry kid. Daddy was wrong. / 寶貝對不起。爸爸錯了。

Our story started from novel coronavirus epidemic of HK early Feb this year. School class resumption was deferred. Every parent tried all means to look for online courses for kids to study at home. My wife picked a super expensive online English speaking course for my 8 year old son, Andy. Each class is 25 minutes only.

I never trusted online course in my life. For years, I held the strong belief that I am the best teacher for my kid about English speaking out of school. Since my wife was determined to fix a course, I told her to give me one night, so that I could try and see if I could find a better one.

Online searching is my strength. But I did not visit many sites before I was tied tightly with Amazing Talker by the stories shared from classmates. Those stories are so real and sincere. I was deeply impressed. I did some basic searching for history of this site and realized it was built by a group of passionate people who would like to support others on language learning.

After a few trail classes, my kid told me: Dad, I want to study with this teacher. Please help me buy the class. The online purchase was convenient. We did not meet any technique issue for booking and attending class as well.

When I saw Andy make progress day by day on his English speaking, I realized I have made three mistakes:
1. I believed I should teach him by myself because my English is good enough. But the reality is that I do not have enough spare time to study with him after a busy working day.
2. I believed I could share my English speaking experience with Andy but in fact his growth should be step by step. I am not patient enough to grow together with him little by little.
3. I believed I could practise English speaking with Andy but in fact I seldom did so. We just don’t have the pressure to do it regularly.

I felt so sorry that my stubborn believes held me from searching better teachers for my kid. But Amazing Talker helped me build up the confidence that I could make up for my mistakes. Why?

It is because we met a very patient and positive teacher, Leanne. Her smile is very sweet. My kid got well with her since the trial class. Teacher Leanne makes study plans and shares with us. So that we could cooperate together about the study progress and reviews.

What is the difference before and after Andy joined the Amazing Talker class? Well. The most obvious thing is that now Andy asks me to play English movie with original speaking. Previously, he only likes to watch English movies with Cantonese dubbing. Furthermore, now he shows stronger interest in reading English stories with me.

As a father, I am not good at expressing myself. I just wish our story could help any parent to rethink the way to support your kid. I wish all the class mates happy learning at Amazing Talker.

我們的故事開始於香港的新型肺炎疫情。所有的中小學都延遲開學了。每個家長都想盡辦法為自己的孩子尋找網絡課程。我太太為我們8歲的兒子Andy選擇了一個昂貴的網絡英文課程。每次上課時間只有25分鐘。

我從來都不相信網絡的課程。多年以來，我一直相信學校之外，我是孩子最好的英文補習老師。因為我太太決定要為Andy購買一個英文口語課程，我請求她給我一晚上的時間，看看我能否找到另一個更好的。

網絡搜索是我的強項。但是沒多久我就被Amazing Talker的網站吸引住了。那些同學們分享的課程真實而又真誠。我還了解到，這個網站是一群有激情的人們為了支持想學習外語的人而建立的。

我們上了幾堂測試堂，Andy告訴我：Daddy，我想向這個老師學習。幫我購買她的課程吧。網站建設的很好。從購買課程，到預訂，上課，我們沒有遇到一次問題。

當我看到Andy一天一天的變化時，我意識到自己犯了三個錯誤：
1. 我以為我的英文還算可以，完全足夠幫Andy做英文輔導。但是現實是我每天放工之後根本沒有太多的閒暇時間同他一起學習。
2. 我以為我可以把自己的英文口語經驗分享給Andy。但是現實是他的成長是一點一滴的。我並沒有這個耐心。
3. 我以為我可以和Andy經常練習說英語，但是現實是我們根本沒有這個壓力要去做，所以我們也很少做。

我固執的思維令我一直沒有幫Andy尋找更好的英文輔導老師。但是Amazing Talker幫助我恢復了信心，令我覺得我可以彌補自己的錯誤。為什麼這麼說呢？

因為我們遇到了一位非常耐心和積極的老師， Leanne。她的笑容非常甜美。Andy從測試課的時候就已經同Leanne相處的非常開心。Leanne老師每次上課都會做計劃並且和我們分享。這樣我們課前可以預習，課後也有壓力要去練習講英文。

在Amazing Talker上課之後Andy發生了哪些變化呢？最明顯的莫過於看電影。之前Andy一直要我幫他播放有粵語字幕的英文電影，自從開始和Leanne老師上課之後，Andy主動要求看英文原音的電影。現在他和我讀英文故事的時候也充滿了更加濃厚的興趣。
